In order to save space when writing patterns, designers employ abbreviations for the most commonly used terms.  Those included below are ones you’ll find in my patterns.  Plus, they’ll be useful when you try read other patterns.  These abbreviations apply to US crochet terms.  To find out more about the differences and similarities with UK terms, read this handy Craftsy blog post.

blo = back loop only

bp = back post

ch = chain

dc = double crochet

dec = decrease

flo = front loop only

FO = Finished Object

fp = front post

hdc = half double crochet

HOTH = Hot Off The Hook

inc = increase

pm = place marker

rep = repeat

rnd = round

sc = single crochet

sp = space

st = stitch

tog = together

tr = treble crochet

UFO = Unfinished Object

WIP = Work In Progress
