How to Crochet V-Stitch | Tutorial

The traditional crochet V-stitch is aptly named because it looks like a “V”.  It’s a great stitch for crocheters of all skill levels and works well in lots of projects like blankets and scarves.  The stitch is worked with just the chain and double crochet so it’s easy to master and it works up quickly.  It creates a beautiful openwork fabric that adds a bit of interest to any large project and has a nice drape.  Combine the v-stitch with other stitch patterns to create a more interesting texture.  You can find loads of variations of the v-stitch.

What you’ll need…

Yarn: any worsted weight (I used Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn)

Hook: US size I-9 (or choose the size that’s just right for you and your yarn)

Abbreviations:  ch = chain, dc = double crochet, rep = repeat

Let’s make a swatch…

To practice the V-stitch, start with a foundation chain that’s a multiple of 3.  For this sample the foundation chain is 24.

Row 1:  Dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 1, dc in same ch, * skip 2 ch, (dc, ch 1, dc) in same ch; rep from * to last 2 ch, skip 1 ch, dc in last ch, turn.

Row 2 and all rows thereafter:  Ch 2 (counts as dc), (dc, ch 1, dc) in each ch-1 space across, dc in top of turning ch.
