The Winter Embers Christmas Tree Skirt Free Crochet Along
Christmas in July comes in many forms. Why not join a fun free crochet along to celebrate?
The Winter Embers Christmas Tree Skirt was originally designed for my daughter’s home. It’s a unique blend of granny pentagons, V-stitches and granny stitches, and a candy cane border, all done in vintage-inspired Christmas colors. This tree skirt is the kind of decoration that quickly becomes a treasured family heirloom.
While you could make this tree skirt on your own, it’s ideal for working on with fellow crocheters. Here’s why:
- It’s approachable but not boring – the construction has enough variety to keep things interesting without being too advanced.
- You get to experience the progress and momentum of the rest of the group. Those progress photos are everything!
- Crocheting the tree skirt with others means you get real time feedback and help right when you need it.
- AND, it’s just so much more fun to crochet with friends!
At the end of the free crochet along, you’ll have a vintage-look, granny-square-inspired Christmas decoration that will light up the room and turn heads.
What is a free crochet along?
Participating in a free crochet along is such a special experience. If you’ve never been a part of one, here’s what you can expect when you join a free crochet along.
- Everyone crochets the same project at the same time (in this case, the Winter Embers Christmas Tree Skirt).
- Each section of the project is released one at a time. That way all of the participants can work at the same pace.
- The fun part comes when everyone is sharing progress photos with the group. It’s so motivating!

How this free crochet along works

- The CAL begins Monday, July 6th, with the release of the first section.
- A new section of the tree skirt pattern will be released every Monday and Thursday.
- The entire tree skirt pattern will be forever free on the blog here.
- The full pattern will also be available for purchase.
- The CAL will be hosted in the MadameStitch Crochet Corner Facebook group. That’s where we’ll ask questions and post progress photos.

About the Winter Embers Christmas Tree Skirt
Sizes
The Christmas tree skirt crochet pattern comes in 2 sizes – Small and Large – because not every holiday tree is the same size. The tree skirt is measured from the innermost edge of the tree skirt (the part nearest the tree trunk) to a peak directly opposite along the outer edge.
That measurement gives you an idea of how far out the Christmas tree skirt will extend.
- The Small size extends approx. 21″.
- The Large size extends approx. 24″.

Choose the size that fits best with the Christmas tree you usually have.
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate
While this tree skirt isn’t terribly difficult, it has a lot of different stitches and techniques, like granny pentagons, granny stitches, V-stitches, and a candy cane border.
The tree skirt is also a size-able project and will need a certain level of commitment to complete. However, participating in the free crochet along means you’ll have extra support as you work your way through the pattern.
