C2C Rectangle Baby Blanket Pattern

C2C Rectangle Baby Blanket | Crochet pattern by MadameStitch

Baby blanket pattern using C2C crochet technique.  Made with Lion Brand “Mandala-Baby”.

The fourth blanket in our series is this beautiful “C2C Rectangle” baby blanket.

Baby blankets can take a lot of time to make – smaller hook, smaller stitches, lighter weight yarn – all of these things mean it will typically take more time to complete.  However, C2C (corner to corner) crochet works up very quickly.  C2C crochet technique is based on making blocks of 3 dc worked into a chain space, meaning there isn’t a complicated pattern to follow (unless you’re following a graph).  You only need to know how to chain, slip stitch and double crochet.

Why did I choose c2c crochet?

C2C has become very popular of late, especially for working up items that have a design or picture that can be worked from a graph.  I haven’t been able to find a record of when this technique was created but I have seen some examples as far back as twenty years.

I thrive on trying new things.  I was intrigued by the look of C2C and the gorgeous designs that could be created with it.  The resulting fabric is so cozy and beautiful.  Plus, I love a project that works up quickly and doesn’t take a lot of concentration.  Let’s face it…when one of your favorite times to crochet is watching tv in the evening, you can’t work on something too complicated.

C2C makes a great travel project for the reasons I listed above, particularly if you don’t have to follow a graph or memorize a difficult pattern.  You can simply pick it up and go.

What materials do I need?

Yarn – Lion Brand “Mandala Baby” (5.3 oz/590 yds; 100% acrylic) – DK weight; Color 211 (Atlantis) – 3 cakes

Hook – US size H-8 or size needed to obtain gauge

How big is the blanket?

The finished size is approx. 35.5” x 30” without edging, with the edging measuring about 1.25″ along each edge, making this a fairly generous size that will grow with the baby.
